Inspired by true events, The Woman King tells the story of the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit that protected the West African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s. Led by General Nanisca, the fierce and disciplined warriors train the next generation to prepare for an impending war against European colonizers and neighboring tribes involved in the slave trade. Nanisca mentors a determined young recruit, Nawi, and together, they defy tradition and fight for the future of their people. The film highlights themes of sisterhood, resilience, and defiance in the face of oppression.
